Cajero Sr., Aaron
Pottery is “an expression of how I feel about beauty in nature. I create Native American arts and crafts using all natural materials.” – in Aaron’s own words
Born in May, 1966, Aaron Cajero Sr. is an artist and potter from Jemez Pueblo. His parents were Esther and Joe Cajero Sr. His grandparents were John and Loretta Cajero and Joe and Juana Pecos. He learned how to make pottery through watching and working with his parents. Later in life, his wife, Anita Cajero showed him the way and he went back to making pottery. In between he earned a BA in physical education/coaching/administration/health and worked in that field for years.
Aaron is known for making contemporary stone-polished bowls, jars and seed pots. His favorite designs to carve include bears, eagles, feathers, and the avanyu (the Tewa water serpent). He’s participated in the Santa Fe Indian Market and Heard Museum Guild Indian Arts Fair & Market for more than 20 years.
Aaron and Anita also taught their children, Aaron Cajero Jr. and Teris Cajero, how to make pottery as they were growing up.
