Nampeyo, Adelle

Adelle Lalo Nampeyo was born into the world of the Hopi-Tewa in 1959. Her mother was Elva Nampeyo, her grandmother Fannie Nampeyo, her great-grandmother Nampeyo of Hano. Adelle learned how to make pottery the traditional way, through watching and working with her mother and grandmother. When she was older, she stayed with the styles and designs she learned from them.

Adelle made Sikyátki-Revival ware, like so many potters in her family were famous for. Her favorite designs were bird elements (beaks, feathers, wings), rain clouds, migration patterns, bat wings, spirals and interlinked scrolls.
