Martinez, Adelphia

1935-2022

Adelphia Martinez was the daughter of Louis and Juanita Wo Peen Gonzales of San Ildefonso Pueblo. She grew up in a pottery-making household and learned the whole process through natural osmosis: watching and working with her parents and her aunt, Rose Gonzales.

Adelphia first appeared in the marketplace in the 1950s. Her work has been displayed in several major exhibits and she won at least one First Place ribbon at the Santa Fe Indian Market.

She mostly made red or black incised pots and plates and some plain, undecorated pots.
