Henderson, Aggie
Christine “Aggie” Henderson was a potter and painter who grew up at Acoma Pueblo. Her heritage was 1/2 Apache, 1/2 Pima. Her parents were Christine and Ted Martinez. Among her siblings were Crystal Poncho and Tina Poncho.
As a teenager, she got interested in clay and began watching and working with her mother-in-law, Marilyn Ray (Henderson). Marilyn taught her every aspect of the process: where to find the clay, how to clean and process it, how to form pieces and prepare them for decorations. Then Marilyn taught Aggie how to paint decorations and fire her pieces outdoors.
Aggie earned awards for her pottery at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial and the New Mexico State Fair. She had a promising career ahead of her but she passed on several years ago.
