Sanchez, Alisha

Born in 1980, Alisha Sanchez is the daughter-in-law of Carolyn Concho. Alisha met Carolyn’s son, George Concho, at the University of New Mexico and after graduation, they got married and moved back to Acoma Pueblo. After that, Alisha learned much of her pottery-making skills from Carolyn. Alisha, in turn, taught George and their daughter, Shaylene Chino, how to make pottery the traditional way.

Carolyn is an excellent teacher as witnessed by Alisha’s 2017 First Place Ribbon from the Santa Fe Indian Market for “Painted polychrome pottery in the style of Zuni, Acoma, Laguna, any form.” She also earned a Second Place Ribbon that year, also at Indian Market, for a Traditional Miniature Pot (under 3″ in every dimension).
