Martinez, Amelia

Amelia Martinez is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. Graciela Gallegos is her sister and Amelia’s work, like many in the Martinez’ family, reflects a lot of Gallegos influence.

Amelia usually makes small, oval, flat plates and decorates them with ancient Mimbres designs. Ernesto Tena, the long-time pharmacist in Mata Ortiz was her husband.
