Corona, Avelina

Avelina Corona de Amaya is the wife of Angel Amaya of the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. They usually collaborate on their pottery: he gathers the clay, she makes and polishes the pieces, then he paints and fires them.

They taught their son and daughter, Jorge Amaya and Shelyz Amaya, to make pottery, too, and both are now active potters, supporting their own families with their pottery.
