Polacca, Barbara
Barbara Polacca is a Hopi-Tewa potter of the Spider Clan who first appeared in the marketplace around 1970. She liked to make black-and-red-on-yellow seed pots, effigies on lidded jars, black-on-orange canteens, and polychrome bowls and tiles. Her favorite designs included feathers, the Dawa face (Sun face), parrots, clouds, bird elements, and germinating and sprouting plants.
She signed most of her pieces with “B. Polacca” or “Barbara Mara Polacca” but sometimes she’d use “Barbara Nampeyo.”
