Lewis, Bernard
Bernard Lewis was born into one of the Lewis familes of Acoma Pueblo in December, 1957. His mother was Katherine Lewis, his grandmother Delores S. Sanchez. His sisters became the famous Lewis Sisters of Acoma: Rebecca Lucario, Marilyn Ray, Carolyn Concho, Diane Lewis and Judy Lewis.
Bernard married Sharon Lewis of Acoma Pueblo and they had a son, Eric. Eric is now a potter, too, making mostly black-on-white seed pots and jars with tattoo-like geometric designs.
Bernard made polychrome jars, bowls, seed pots, figures and canteens. He liked to paint Mimbres Revival designs. He was an exhibitor at Santa Fe Indian Market for a number of years and earned multiple ribbons for his work.
