Gachupin, Candelaria

Candelaria Gachupin was born into Zia Pueblo in 1908, the daughter of Maria Bridgett and granddaughter of Rosalea Medina Toribio. She grew up in a pottery-making household and became an active potter herself in the 1920s. She mostly made traditional polychrome jars and dough bowls. Candelaria is most remembered, though, as the mother of Dora Tse Pe.
