Veloz, Carmen

Carmela “Carmen” Ledezma de Veloz is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. She learned to make pottery from Gloria Losoya de Veloz, then she developed her own unique white-body seed pots that she paints with red and black designs. Carmen also makes various pot styles in white clay and leaves them unpainted.

Carmen and her husband, Jesus Veloz, have traveled across the United States doing demonstrations of the Mata Ortiz techniques for creating and decorating pottery.
