Gachupin, Carol Fragua

Born into Jemez Pueblo in the 1960s, Carol Fragua Gachupin is the daughter of Felix and Grace L. Fragua. Her husband is Joseph Gachupin Sr. Among her siblings are sisters Felicia Fragua, Emily Fragua Tsosie, Bonnie Fragua and Chris Fragua, and brother Clifford Kim Fragua. The kids learned how to make pottery through watching and working with their mother and their grandmother, Emilia Loretto.

Carol first started exhibiting at the Santa Fe Indian Market almost right out of high school. Later she was exhibiting at the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show, too.

Carol primarily makes matte polychrome storytellers and feline storytellers. She also makes traditional jars and bowls.
