Velarde, Carol

Carol Velarde-Brewer was born into Santa Clara Pueblo in 1949. Her mother was Teresa Gutierrez, her grandmother Rosita Velarde. Among her siblings were Marie Suazo, Ivan Gutierrez, Doris Tenorio, Tony Gutierrez Jr. and Earl Gutierrez.

Carol learned to make pottery the ages old way, by watching and working with her mother and grandmother as she grew up. She specializes in miniature carved black pottery.

Carol first participated in the Santa Fe Indian Market and earned a 3rd Place ribbon that year for a nativity scene. She was still participating there in the early 2000s and still earning ribbons.
