Charlie, Carrie Chino
The eldest daughter of Marie Z. Chino, Carrie Chino Charlie was born into Acoma Pueblo in 1925 and died in 2012.
Along with sisters Rose and Grace and their mother Marie, Carrie was one of the exhibitors featured in the 1974 “Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery” show at the Maxwell Museum of the University of New Mexico. She was also a participant in the “One Space: Three Visions” show at the Albuquerque Museum in 1979.
Carrie was a regular exhibitor at the Santa Fe Indian Market, too, from the mid-1970s into the early 2000s, winning a number of ribbons over the years. Her favorite shapes to make were jars, bowls and wedding vases. She worked in traditional and contemporary polychrome and black and white fine line and geometric designs.
Carrie married Thomas Charlie and among their children were Isabel Charlie, Ann Chino, Corinne Louis and JoAnne Chino Garcia. She is the grandmother of Robert Patricio.
