Ortega, Celia
Celia Ortega Ledezma is a second generation potter from Mata Ortiz. She most likely learned how to make pottery from her mother, Yoly Ledezma, as she was growing up.
Celia started making pots on her own when she was around 16. She both makes pots and decorates them. She usually works with red and white clays as background for her painting. She adds a black slip when she does sgraffito work.
Celia has often participated in the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz competition and earned a few ribbons. She has also participated in the Annual Concurso Ceramica Nacional at Tlaquepaque, MX, and in shows at the Desert Southwest Museum in Tucson, AZ.
