Bugarini, Cesar

Angel Cesar Bugarini Soto is a second generation potter from Barrio Porvenir in the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. He is a distant cousin of Laura and Elvira Bugarini.

Cesar makes black-on-black lightly carved and painted pottery. He also paints multi-colored Paquimé Revival designs on black graphite pieces. He makes some of the largest pieces ever made in Mata Ortiz and has earned more than a few ribbons for them.

In 2018 Cesar earned a Second Place prize for one of his burnished black graphite pieces at the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. In 2017 he’d earned a First Place prize for a similar burnished black graphite piece at the Concurso.
