Fragua, Cindy
Cindy Fragua was born to Grace L. Fragua and Felix Fragua of Jemez Pueblo in March, 1963. With Jemez potters Darrick Tsosie, Carol Gachupin and Bonnie, Felicia, Emily, Clifford Kim, Linda Lucero Fragua and Chrislyn Fragua in the family, it’s no wonder Cindy got interested in working with clay. She was only waiting to finish high school…
Cindy says she learned much of her technique from her sisters Rose and Emily but they all got their inspiration from their mother Grace. She says everyone in the family makes pottery now because of Grace.
Cindy participates in shows like the Santa Fe Indian Market and Eight Northern Pueblos Arts and Crafts Show. She’s also participated in pottery making demonstrations under the portal at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe. Cindy has earned First, Second and Third Place ribbons at the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts and Crafts Show.
Her favorite pieces to make are Corn Maidens and corn pots. She likes to decorate them using traditional Jemez designs. Cindy tells us she’s grateful for customers who really appreciate her work, it makes her happy and adds meaning to her life.
