Shije, Cornelia

Cornelia Shije was a potter from Zia Pueblo. She was born into the Eagle clan in the 1960s, the daughter of Vicente and Juanita C. Shije. She most likely learned how to make pottery through watching and working with her mother as she grew up. Her mother was originally from Acoma but when she married Vicente, she moved to Zia and became a Zia potter.

Cornelia was a participant in the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show for many years. She died just a few years ago.

Note: Cornelia didn’t just make and decorate her own pottery, she also painted greenware.
