Star Flower, Cynthia
Cynthia Star Flower Dunlap was born into San Ildefonso Pueblo in 1959. She is the daughter of Carmelita Vigil Dunlap and Carlos Dunlap, Sr. Among her siblings were Carlos Sunrise Dunlap, Jeannie Mountain Flower Dunlap, Martha Appleleaf and Linda Dunlap. Cynthia said she learned how to make pottery from watching and working with her mother, Carmelita, and her brother, Carlos.
Cynthia primarily made black-on-black jars and bowls. After her brother died, though, she worked to bring back his signature “Sunrise” color (which is attained in the firing process). She was an exhibitor at the Santa Fe Indian Market for almost 30 years, beginning when she was still a teenager.
