Setalla, Dee

Dee Setalla was born in July, 1963 at the IHS hospital in Keams Canyon, AZ. He was the son of Justin and Pauline Setalla and grew up in the Hopi village of Mishongnovi. He learned to make pottery from his mother and from his father’s sister, Eunice Fawn Navasie.

Dee mostly makes polychrome Sikyátki-Revival style jars and bowls and decorates them in red and black with designs passed down in his family for generations.

Dee has participated in shows at the University of Arizona, Museum of Northern Arizona, Santa Fe Indian Market, Pueblo Grande Invitational Indian Market, Coconino Center for the Arts, Santo Domingo Pueblo Indian Arts & Crafts Market and Scottsdale Community College. He has earned multiple ribbons, including a First Place ribbon for a traditional Hopi jar at Santa Fe Indian Market in 1997.
