Chavarria, Denise
In 1959, Denise Chavarria was born into Santa Clara Pueblo, the daughter of Loretto and Stella Chavarria. She learned how to make pottery through watching and working with her mother and her grandmother, Teresita Naranjo, as she grew up.
Denise primarily makes redware and blackware. She likes to carve the avanyu, flowers and geometric designs in her pieces. She also often makes miniatures.
Denise was a participant at Santa Fe Indian Market for many years, earning multiple ribbons over the years for her miniatures, jars and figures. She also often exhibited at the New Mexico State Fair and the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and earned more ribbons at each.
