Tahbo, Dianna

Dianna Tahbo (1960-2011) was a Hopi-Tewa potter of the Spider Clan. She was the great-granddaughter of Grace Chapella, the granddaughter of Alma Tahbo and younger sister of Mark Tahbo. Like Mark, Dianna learned most about making pottery from their great-grandmother but Dianna always said she was also greatly influenced by her brother.

Dianna started producing pottery around 1980 but she never produced a lot. She did earn multiple ribbons over the years, including one for “Best of Miniatures” at the Santa Fe Indian Market. In 1984 a traditional Hopi bowl by Dianna also earned a Judge’s Choice Award from Byron Hunter at the Heard Museum Guild Native American Invitational Arts Show.

Dianna mostly made polychrome jars, bowls and plates. She liked to decorate them with designs incorporating butterflies, bird elements and prehistoric geometrics.
