Robertson, Donna
Born on the Hopi Reservation in 1972, Donna Navasie Robertson is the daughter of Marianne Navasie and granddaughter of Joy Navasie, aka Second Frogwoman. Donna grew up watching her mother and grandmother making pottery together and became interested herself when she was around 10. She was selling pieces in the marketplace by the time she was 16.
Like her mother and grandmother showed her, Donna mostly makes white ware. She is most known for her black-and-red-on-white wedding vases. She usually signs her pieces with a tadpole next to a frog with webbed toes. She also often adds either D.R. or Donna R. to the signature to differentiate from her mother’s signature (a tadpole, a frog with webbed toes and sometimes an M.)
