Quezada, Efren
Efren Quezada Olivas is the son of Juan Quezada Sr., one of the originators of Mata Ortiz pottery. Efren learned to make pottery from his father as he was growing up.
Today, Efren primarily makes jars of different colors. Some of them are made of mixed clay colors. Many of his jars have precise cutouts and most are painted with bands of a multitude of Paquimé geometric designs.
Efren taught his son, Efren Quezada Jr. to make pottery, too. His son’s pieces are even more complex.
In 2017, Efren earned a First Place prize in the Traditional Color, with or without design, division at the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz.
