Ortiz, Eligio

Eligio Ortiz is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. His father was the late Master Potter Eduardo “Chevo” Ortiz.

Eli primarily makes graphite black jars and decorates them with matte black animal, reptile, fish, bird and geometric designs. In 2020 he earned the Third Place ribbon in the burnished black graphite category of the 23rd Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. He earned a Third Place ribbon in the same category for a similar piece in 2019.
