Ledezma, Elsa

Elsa Ledezma is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. Elsa’s parents are Priciliano Ledezma and Ramona Jacquez. Among her siblings are Yoly Ledezma, Antonio Ledezma, Humberto Ledezma and Julio Ledezma.

Elsa and her husband, Jorge Ponce, are a typical potting family in Mata Ortiz: she makes the pots and he paints them. Elsa generally makes her pots of red clay. Jorge paints them in the Porvenir style, covering nearly the entire piece with design.
