Loretto, Fannie
Fannie Loretto was born into Jemez Pueblo in April 1953. Her parents were Louis & Carrie R. Loretto. Among her siblings are Alma Maestas, Leonora Lupe Lucero, Dorothy Trujillo, Marie Edna Coriz and Mary Toya. She and Steve Wall are the parents of Adrian Wall, Marcus Wall and Kathleen Wall.
Fannie learned to make pottery through watching and working with her mother as a teenager. Her pottery first appeared in the marketplace around 1977. She was making storyteller figures back then and earned blue ribbons for some of them at the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and the New Mexico State Fair.
Fannie studied Fine Art at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO and has been a professional artist her entire adult life. For several years Fannie was making Pueblo dancer figures, then she moved into creating clay masks. That has earned her many more blue ribbons at Santa Fe, the State Fair and the Heard Museum Guild Indian Arts & Fair in Phoenix.
