Aragon, Florence
Florence Aragon was born into Acoma Pueblo in May 1929. Like her sisters Rachel Aragon and Mary Trujillo, she learned how to make pottery through watching and working with their mother, Lupe Aragon, as she grew up.
Florence was known for her large, polychrome jars decorated with Tularosa Revival designs. She was especially known for her Tularosa spirals. Her other favorite designs included parrots, clouds, rain, plants, rosettes and checkerboards.
Florence first participated in the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1985. Around that same time she was winning ribbons at the New Mexico State Fair and the Gallup InterTribal Ceremonial. She won a ribbon at Santa Fe that year and several more over 20 years of participation there.
Florence taught her son, John F. Aragon, how to make pottery and he sometimes collaborated with his mother and with his aunt, Rachel Aragon. John also won some major ribbons on his own.
Florence passed on in 2010.
