Chavarria, Frances
Frances M. Chavarria was an active Santa Clara Pueblo potter from about 1930 to about 1970. Her husband was Antonio Chavarria, a drum-maker and jeweler. Frances knew how to make pottery before she married Antonio. Some of their children learned a few things from their parents as they grew up: some of the boys made drums, pottery, and gold and silver jewelry as adults.
Frances exhibited at the Heard Museum Guild Indian Arts Fair & Market and probably at the Santa Fe Indian Market. Some of her pieces are in the Heard Museum’s Permanent Collection.
