Gutierrez, Gary

Born into Santa Clara Pueblo in 1967, Gary Gutierrez is the son of Dorothy and Paul Gutierrez Sr. Like his brother, Paul Jr., he learned to make pottery through watching and working with his parents as he grew up.

Like his parents, Gary specializes in figures, except most of his he calls “Anasazi figurines.” They are figures of people from ancient times, times Gary feels were more simple, more connected to the Earth Mother. The ones he prefers to make are those holding pieces of pottery in their arms.
