Naranjo, Glenda
Born into Santa Clara Pueblo in July 1953, Glenda Naranjo learned how to make pottery through watching and working with her mother, Flora Naranjo. She often collaborated with her mother later, too. Among Glenda’s siblings are Barbara Martinez, Sammy Naranjo and Frances Naranjo.
Glenda makes polychrome redware, black-on-black and carved blackware jars, bowls and wedding vases. Her favorite decorations to paint are feathers and the avanyu (the mythic Tewa water serpent). She’s unique in that she adds eyelashes to some of her water serpents.
Glenda has participated in the New Mexico State Fair, the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show. She’s earned ribbons at each, often for her black-on-black wedding vases.
