Martinez, Graciela
A potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico, Maria Graciela Martinez Quezada de Silveira is the sister of Pricila Martinez. Her husband is Goyin Silveira, another award-earning potter from Mata Ortiz.
Graciela and Goyin often collaborate on projects but, like most husband-and-wife teams in Mata Ortiz, only the painter signs the pot. Graciela and Goyin both like to paint intricate Paquimé designs that cover most of the surface of their pieces.
In 2018 and 2020 Graciela earned Awards for Excellence at the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. In 2016 she earned a Third Place prize in the Black burnished with graphite, with or without design category at the Concurso. She has also earned awards for her work at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum “Women Potters of Mata Ortiz” annual show.
