Lonewolf, Greg
Greg Lonewolf was born to Joseph Lonewolf and Katheryn Lonewolf of Santa Clara Pueblo in 1952. He was the brother of Susan Romero and Rosemary Lonewolf. People were making pottery all around him as he was growing up. Greg’s father, Joseph, was one of the early pioneers in the art of sgraffito on pottery miniatures. Greg followed in his footsteps, merging traditional motifs with contemporary wildlife and nature designs, both etched and painted, on miniature seed pots.
Greg had a lifetime interest in being a firefighter. He landed a job with the Espanola Fire Department and was quickly promoted to Battalion Chief. That left him little time to pay attention to his pottery: in 2001 he is said to have made only 7 pieces.
