Ortiz, Guadalupe

A potter and drum maker from Cochiti Pueblo, Guadalupe Ortiz (1929-2015) was the husband of Seferina Ortiz and father of Inez, Joyce, Janice and Virgil. He learned how to make pottery through watching and working with his wife. He didn’t start making pottery until about 1998, when he was in his late 60s. He made a few bowls and jars but he mostly made frog and bear figures. He was also a noted maker of drums and rattles, a wood-carver and a basket weaver.
