Ortega, Hector
Hector Ortega learned how to make pots with spirals and concave sides from his brother-in-law, Eduardo Ortiz. From Nicolas Ortiz he learned how to sculpt animal figures.
That prepared him to implement two concepts: pots with animals looking at each other across the rim and pots carved with ribs that spiral from top to bottom. He generally works with black or red clays and paints as little as possible.
Hector is married to Olivia Lopez Quezada, daughter of Reynalda Quezada. They live and work in the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico.
