Quezada, Hilario Jr
Hilario Quezada Jr. is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. He’s the grandson of Consolacion Quezada and Guadalupe Corona, great-nephew of Juan Quezada Sr.
Hilario mostly makes jars and seed pots and likes to decorate them using sgraffito and painted butterfly, bird, branch and geometric designs. He seems to prefer making polychrome jars but he also makes black jars that he carves and etches to get his final designs. His polychrome jars tend to also have the red and black bands of sgraffito geometric designs like those favored by the Quintana/Olivas family.
