Antonio, Hilda

Hilda Antonio was born into Acoma Pueblo in August 1938, the daughter of Eva Histia and granddaughter of Helice Vallo. Among her aunts were Lucy M. Lewis and Elizabeth Waconda. Hilda learned how to make pottery by watching and working with her mother as she grew up.

Hilda made traditional polychrome jars and bowls throughout her career. When she was about 20, she made her first storyteller figure. She quickly moved on to making storyteller owls and found her niche there.
