Pina, Humberto

Humberto Eleuterio Pina Quintana is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico.

In 2019 Humberto earned a Third Place prize in the Sgraffito division at the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. In 2016 he’d earned an Honorable Mention in the same category. He usually makes polychrome pottery and lightly carves, paints and etches turtles, lizards, hummingbirds with flowers and geometric designs on them, often with a 3-panel layout. He also often incorporates the Quintana family hallmark of red and/or black and/or green bands of sgraffito geometric designs around the neck and opening.
