Coriz, Ione
Born into Santo Domingo Pueblo in 1973, Ione Coriz was the daughter of Arthur Coriz and Hilda Coriz. Her parents learned how to make pottery from Hilda’s brother Robert Tenorio. Ione learned how to make pottery while growing up and helping her parents.
Ione started showing at the Santa Fe Indian Market when she was 15 years old. She earned a Third Place ribbon for pottery, ages 18 and under, in 1988. Then she earned a Second Place ribbon for pottery, ages 18 and under, in 1989.
Ione was a participant at Santa Fe Indian Market for more than 10 years. She participated in the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show for several years, too.
Ione partnered with Warren Coriz and taught him to make pottery. He earned a Second Place ribbon at Eight Northern Pueblos in 2005, then earned two First Place ribbons there in 2006. Sadly, he died in a car accident on the I-25 in August 2011. Ione is still making pottery, still known for her whimsical figures (including several versions of the Muppet’s Miss Piggy).
