Trevizo, Irma
Irma Trevizo de Ledezma is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. She’s the wife of Antonio Ledezma and mother of Sigifredo Ledezma. For many years, she made the clay rings that are used to support so many Mata Ortiz pots. Then, working with Santiago Ledezma, she learned how to make and decorate pots.
Irma does mostly sgraffito designs on black-on-white or red-on-white jars, Her designs usually incorporate lizards, turtles, birds, animals or ants with a mesh background.
