Sarracino, Janice

Janice Sarracino was born into Jemez Pueblo around 1970. Her mother, Pauline Sarracino, was a potter and she exposed Janice to the processes involved in making traditional pottery from early childhood. When Janice was older, she married Ben Toya.

Ben says he learned to make pottery through watching and working with Janice’s aunt, Sharon Sarracino. Janice learned from Sharon, too, as did Joseph Fragua, Genevieve Chinana and Florence Yepa.

Ben usually makes the jars and bowls that Janice decorates.
