Folwell, Jody Sue "Kaa"

Jody Sue Kaa Ojegi (meaning: Frost on the Leaves) Folwell was born to Polly Rose Folwell of Santa Clara Pueblo in January 1991. Kaa had her hands in clay early in life, exhibiting her own pieces in a booth with her mother and grandmother (Jody Folwell) at the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show beginning when she was 6. She earned her first ribbon, an Honorable Mention for her painting, at the Espanola Arts Festival when she was 8. Her grandmother said she was very proud. That was only the beginning.

Kaa has been a participant in the annual Heard Museum Indian Arts Fair & Market since 2013. She earned an Honorable Mention in Classification II – Pottery, Division F – Non-traditional design or form with non-native materials in 2016.

Kaa’s contemporary pottery is based on traditional forms decorated with stylized traditional designs that are similar to modern graffiti.
