Chavarria, Joey

Joey Chavarria (1964-1987) was a promising young potter from Santa Clara Pueblo when he passed on. His parents were Loretto and Stella Chavarria. Among his siblings were Denise Chavarria and Sunday Chavarria. He learned to make pottery through watching and helping his mother and grandmother, Teresita Naranjo. He primarily made black jars and bowls, carving most with avanyu and geometric designs.
