Puffer, Jofern Silas
Jofern Silas Puffer is a potter of mixed Hopi-Tewa and Laguna heritage. Her mother was Roberta Silas and among her siblings are Venora Silas and Antoinette Honie. Her father was from Laguna Pueblo. He married into and moved to Hopi, where he and Roberta moved to a home in the village of Polacca. There she learned to make pottery from Helen Naha. Helen also taught Roberta many different designs to use. Roberta made variants of each that were clearly her own and those variants are what she taught to her daughters.
Jofern has been an active potter since about 1990. There is very little information available about her but she does now and then somewhere offer a demonstration of how she makes her pottery.
