Villalba, Jose Andres
José Andres Villalba is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. He’s the youngest son of Andres Villalba and he learned how to make pottery through watching and working with his father and his brother, Sabino Caby Villalba.
José seems to mostly make plates and shallow bowls. In keeping with Villalba family tradition, his shapes, forms and designs are faithful to the shapes, forms and designs of ancient Paquimé-Revival pots and pot sherds. His only addition to the style may be an appliqué (usually a lizard) somewhere on the piece.
