Shields, Judy
Judy Shields was born into Acoma Pueblo in April 1962. She’s the daughter of Edna Chino, granddaughter of Lita Garcia. Judy grew up in a pottery-making household. She and her brother Brian and sister Corinne were exposed to the entire process of making traditional pottery from early in life.
Judy was active in the marketplace almost right out of high school. She liked making polychrome jars and bowls but prefers making figures, especially storytellers, owls, turtles and lizards. She also makes miniatures.
As soon as Judy went to the Santa Fe Indian Market the first time, she started earning awards for her work, both her figures and her traditional forms.
Shortly after finishing high school Judy met and married one of the sons of Ethel Shields. That made her an in-law of Charmae Shields and Thomas Natseway.
