Kathy Gutierrez-Naranjo is the daughter of Helen Gutierrez. She and her sister, Carol Naranjo, learned how to make pottery through watching and working with their mother as they grew up.

Helen Gutierrez had been born into San Ildefonso Pueblo but married a man from Santa Clara Pueblo and moved to his home there. She continued making San Ildefonso-style pottery the rest of her life. That’s the style she taught her daughters and they, too, continued making pottery in the San Ildefonso style.
