Duran, Koty
Koty Duran is a potter from Tesuque Pueblo, the son of Tina Gasper of Zuni Pueblo and Aaron Duran of Tesuque. He is the maternal grandson of Madeline Lowsayatee of Zuni and Anson Gasper, and the paternal grandson of Shirley Duran of Tesuque Pueblo and Joseph Duran. He told us he graduated from Jones Academy (on the Choctaw Nation) in Oklahoma in 2011 and immediately signed up with the US Marine Corps.
Koty returned to Tesuque after completing his tour of duty and took up making traditional pottery the Tesuque Pueblo way. Every time we’ve seen him, he’s brought some really nice micaceous Tesuque Munas (also known as Rain Gods).
