Goldtooth, Larson

The son of Ernestine Goldtooth, Larson Goldtooth (1971- ) is a Hopi-Tewa potter and member of the Tobacco Clan. His heritage is 1/2 Dineh, 1/2 Hopi-Tewa. He was born and raised in the Ganado area on the Dineh Nation. He was exposed to the making of pottery by his Hopi relatives. He learned how to make pottery from Mark Tahbo.

Around 1999 he changed from making the standard Hopi forms and shapes he had been taught and began making figurines. He said he was inspired by Helen Cordero and Virgil Ortiz of Cochiti Pueblo. He earned a First Place award at the 2002 Santa Fe Indian Market for a set of his figures, then he earned another First Place award at the 2004 Santa Fe Indian Market for another set of figures. In 2005 he earned a Fellowship Award from the Southwest Association for Indian Art at the Santa Fe Indian Market. In 2007 he quit his day job and graduated to being a full-time potter.
