Navasie, Leona

Born into the Hopi-Tewa world at Tewa Village in 1939, Leona Navasie was the daughter of Perry and Joy Navasie, aka 2nd Frogwoman. Among her siblings were Marianne Navasie, Natelle Lee, Maynard Navasie, Loretta Navasie Koshiway and Grace Navasie Lomaquahu. Their grandmother was Paqua Naha, First Frogwoman. In a family like that, you know she learned how to make pottery as she was growing up. She married Larson Addington but there’s no record of them having any children.

Leona signed her pottery with a frog figure and “LN”. Her favorite designs included eagle tail feathers, parrot tail feathers, other feathers, terraced clouds and tadpoles.
